Early Days Support Volunteers |
|
The Early Days Support Volunteers are a group of mothers offering confidential support and practical advice to new parents. They are not qualified counsellors, but are raising families abroad themselves and understand how difficult it can be dealing with all that a new baby can throw at you. Normally, each volunteer offers support to 2 or 3 couples who they would usually have met at a prenatal class. They stay in contact over the first 8-12 weeks of the baby’s life. BCT Breastfeeding Counselling Service |
|
The BCT has a team of trained Breastfeeding Counsellors offering help and support to mothers and mothers-to-be. Every prenatal course for first-time parents includes one class on breastfeeding. Classes are also offered on a freestanding basis to mothers not attending a prenatal course. Postnatal advice and help is offered via the phone or by visit (to your home or to hospital). The counsellors can help with every aspect of breastfeeding, from getting started to weaning onto the bottle or solids. Read more (members only)... |

Prenatal courses offer an ideal environment for small groups of expecting mums and their partners to learn more about pregnancy, birth, parenting and everything in between. Led by qualified prenatal teachers, the courses are a wonderful way to enjoy the support and friendship of others in the same situation, while you all prepare for the joys and realities of having a baby. The BCT has a number of TENS (transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation), machines for pain relief during labour available for hire. We also have valley cushions which help you to sit more comfortably after you have had your baby, especially if you have had stitches. Contact TENS Machine Hire Co-ordinator (members only)... |

There are many advantages to using cloth reusable nappies over disposables. As well as being kinder to the environment, in the long run cloth nappies work out much cheaper than disposables, even with the washing costs included. They also provide a more comfortable, chemical-free cushion for babies' bums and, best of all, they are much better at containing poo! Read more (members only)... |
